Invest In Love
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21
Giving as an Act of Faith
Like prayer, scripture reading, fasting, and dedication to service, the practice of giving regularly and intentionally helps us grow in faith and mature spiritually. It serves as a continual reminder of God’s claim on our lives. It requires us to put our own needs and wants into proper perspective, to set aside our own interests for the sake of God and others. Generosity is a tool God uses to shape our hearts. And through the spiritual discipline of giving, our hearts become one with God’s heart and our faith grows. Pledging helps us embrace the spiritual discipline of regular, faithful giving.
What is a Pledge?
A pledge is a promise between the giver and God shared with the church for the purpose of being more faithful, accountable, and generous. Some people are afraid of making pledges because they fear being unable to fulfill them. But it’s important to remember that neither a pledge nor an estimate of giving is a legally binding contract. A pledge can be modified if someone’s circumstances change.
What Does My Pledge Support?
Annual giving is:
The regular practice of returning to God a portion of all that God has given us. It involves teaching ourselves how to create a life built upon the notion that all that we have is a gift from God.
When you invest your God given gifts at Advent, you are investing in love, community and transformation. Your gifts support worship, small groups, children, youth and family ministries, faith formation, music ministry (ex: Chorale), Hunger Ministry (ex: Pantry & Community Lunch), Comunidad del Camino/Community on the Way, Progressive Campus Ministry (ex: LaMP), interns and field education students, prayer ministry, advocacy and community building, relationship building, preservation and use of our holy footprint (93rd & Broadway), and the day to day operations of AdventNYC.
How much should I pledge?
Any size gift matters because it is from you and because it is used to love God, serve people, and transform lives. A goal of 10 percent of your income is generally recommended, which is a traditional tithe, but until then, consider increasing your giving as you are able. Click the button below to access an incremental giving chart to assist in deciding what percentage of income giving is feasible for your 2025 commitment. We recognize that the choice to support our church ministries is a very personal choice and a covenant between you and God, and we thank you for your generosity.

Grace and peace to you!
As we approach this year’s Giving Campaign, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible community we’ve built together. Our church is more than just a building; it’s a place where we gather in faith, support one another, and reach out to those in need.
During this time of year, we are called to reflect on our commitment to God and to one another. Our giving campaign is an opportunity for each of us to consider how we can contribute to the mission and vision of our church. Your pledges of time, talent, and treasure are vital in helping us sustain our ministries, support our outreach programs, and maintain our facilities.
We encourage you to take a moment to pray about your pledge for the coming year. Consider what you can give, whether it be through financial contributions, volunteering your time, or sharing your unique gifts. Every pledge, no matter the size, makes a difference in our church and community.
On the accompanying pledge form, the Giving Team has identified three major categories of commitment, and various ways you might participate in them this year.
· With your time: by attending worship, by praying, and by attending small group studies or other events.
· With your talent: by stepping into leadership or volunteer roles where you have gifts to share.
· With treasure: by making a formal pledge – no matter what level – of what you plan to invest in Advent’s ministry this year. Generosity is a tool God uses to shape our hearts. If you are planning on giving for the first time, consider making a gift of 250$, which comes out to 20$/month or about $5per week.
We encourage you to thoughtfully consider how you can contribute to the life and mission of Advent.
In the coming weeks, we will hear members talk about mission areas they have been investing in, and what the giving process means to them. Please plan to join us in worship on Sunday, November 24, so you can submit your pledge forms, in person or online (www.adventnyc.org/giving2025), with our weekly offering.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a vital part of our church community. Together, let’s make this Giving Campaign a success and continue to spread love and hope.
In Christ's love,
The Advent Giving Team
