Advent LIFE (Living In Faith and Enjoying it!) is a social ministry for twenty- and thirty-somethings who gather monthly for fun and fellowship, study and service. We might explore a new or 'always meant to see that' New York destination, visit a favorite restaurant, or gather for potluck and games at someone's apartment. We also meet for devotion and study groups, and get together to attend noteworthy lectures, concerts and exhibits.
Visit Advent LIFE on Facebook for a schedule of our events!
For more information or to suggest an activity, please contact Kelly Kandler at nykel8@hotmail.com.
Attention Artists/Performers/Speakers! If there's a concert, lecture, launch party or other event that you are participating in, please let me know so we can all go support you!

Are you a college or university student in New York City looking for spiritual support and a caring community of faith? Do you need someone to talk to? Advent Lutheran Church is here for you.
Our congregation has students from many of the schools in New York such as Columbia University, NYU, Fordham University, Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard, Union Theological Seminary and others. Both undergraduate and graduate students find a spiritual home at Advent while they pursue higher education.
We know that college and graduate school years can be a time of exploration, questioning and formulating faith and life skills that will be a lasting part of a person's life. We recognize the critical need for engagement of university students on a level that enhances their spiritual, physical and emotional development. We are looking for new ways of involving young adults and the people who work most closely with them in the life of the church and strive to model effective ways of being a Lutheran presence on New York City's diverse campuses.
We are dedicated to making Advent a welcoming place for all students and are eager to offer you a community where you can grow in faith. Whether you're looking for an active campus ministry experience or simply an enthusiastic worship community, you are welcome at Advent.
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." -- Philippians 4:6-7
"Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all people." The mission of the Prayer Ministry is to continue the same charge given to Timothy. Our goal is to provide a relief for all people - to share your concerns and to celebrate with you - and we welcome prayer petitions from all our members and friends.
Prayers may be intercessory, petitionary or thanksgiving and all petitions should be deposited in the Prayer Box on the able at the back of the sanctuary during the week or on Sundays. Prayer Request Forms are available on the table. These petitions are emailed to the prayer partners who immediately lift up these prayers on your behalf. You may also send your prayer requests to Pastor J. Elise Brown at pastor@adventnyc.org. Confidentiality continues to be extremely important to us and we will honor your wishes.
If you would like to share more personal prayer time, a prayer partner is available each Sunday following service to pray with you and lift up your concerns and thanksgivings.
Prayer Ministry meetings are held on the last Sunday of every month and we extend a warm invitation to all members and friends of Advent. To learn more, contact Grace Cobbinah at gcobbin7@aol.com.
